Chicago, Ill. -The UIC softball team's seventh-inning rally fell a little short on Saturday afternoon as they dropped a 4-2 decision to Loyola at the 3rd Annual 'Battle in the Windy City' Softball Tournament at Flames Field.

With the win, Loyola, which fell 4-3 in extra innings to DePaul earlier in the day, moved to 1-1 in the tournament. UIC dropped to 0-1.

The Flames trailed 4-0 heading into the seventh inning, when singles by Brittany McIntyre and starting pitcher Chelsea Barclay set the table for a rally. Senior Alycia Creese roped a pinch hit single for UIC's first run, then an RBI ground out by Becky Moran cut the Ramblers' lead to 4-2.

Loyola pitcher Mia Pangere would douse the Flames' rally from there, though, getting pinch hitter Meghan Gallagher to ground out to end the game.

Pangere, who gave up two runs on six hits in seven innings, picked up the win while Barclay, who allowed four runs, was tagged with the loss, despite striking out six Loyola batters.

The Ramblers wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as freshman Revan Gengler hit a solo home run to left field with two outs in the bottom of the first inning.

Loyola tacked on two more runs in the third. An RBI triple by Erin Cunningham got things started, then an error by UIC second baseman Emily Stoddard allowed Cunningham to cross the plate.

In the fourth, the Ramblers added their fourth tally on an RBI single by Nora Schober into short right field.

The Flames will be back in action at 2:30 p.m., when they take on DePaul in their second game of the 'Battle in the Winsy City' Tournament.
