    Dayton, Ohio -

    UIC (18-31, 8-7) and Wright State (21-33, 8-10) squared off on Sunday in each school's final regular season contest before heading to the 2007 Horizon League Tournament next week. After splitting in Saturday's doubleheader, the Flames clinched the three-game series victory with a 9-4 triumph over the Raiders on Sunday afternoon.

    Sophomore Melissa Marinacci was 1-for-3 with two runs scored, one homer and a team-high three RBI. Sophomore Sarah Clynes was 2-for-3 with two runs and improved her overall record to 14-16 in the circle.

    Junior Mallory Studzinski was 3-for-4 with one RBI. Junior Ashlee Ackerman was 2-for-5 with one run scored. Senior Liz Jacoby picked up two runs and one RBI.

    WSU's Kristen Farley posted a .500 batting average (2-for-4) with one RBI. Michelle Logan was 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Kristen Bradshaw was 1-for-2 with one run and Briauna Birl was 1-for-3 with one RBI.

    Jamie Perkins falls to 8-20 in the circle. Perkins fanned three batters in seven innings pitched.

    UIC got on the scoreboard for the first time in the series in the top of the second inning. Studzinski doubled to centerfield, advancing Marinacci to third base. With runners on the corners, Rogers reached on a fielder's choice for the 1-0 advantage.

    Wright State tied it up at 1-1 on an RBI single through the left side from Birl.

    The Flames took the lead and extended their cushion in the top of the fifth with four runs on five hits. Clynes singled up the middle, followed by a single to right field from Ackerman. Jacoby reached first base on a throwing error by the pitcher, sending Clynes home for the one-run advantage. Frydendall notched an RBI on a sacrifice fly to left field. Marinacci then stepped up to the plate and drilled a two-run homer to left field for the 5-1 lead.

     

     

    The Raiders cut the deficit to two runs in the bottom of the fifth on a UIC throwing error and an RBI single down the right field line by Farley (5-3).

    The Flames broke open the contest in the top of the fourth with another four runs. With the bases loaded, Jacoby reached on a fielder's choice and picked up two RBI after a fielding error by the shortstop. Marinacci tabbed her third RBI on a ground out to the second baseman, sending Jacoby home. Studzinski capped the inning with an RBI single to left center (9-3).

    Wright State's Williams gained back a run for the team with an RBI single to right field in the bottom of the sixth inning.

    UIC held the Raiders in the seventh to clinch the series victory, 2-1, with the win in the game three.

    UIC continues play at the 2007 Horizon League Tournament, May 10-13, in Cleveland, Ohio. The Flames' seed will be determined at the finish of today's league action.
