Softball Falls to IUPUI, 3-1|

CHICAGO – The UIC softball team (12-21) was held to four hits Tuesday (April 22) in a 3-1 loss to IUPUI (19-17) at Flames Field. The Flames left two runners on base in the fifth and sixth innings as IUPUI's Cassie Vodde prevented a UIC comeback.
Alice Fitzpatrick (3-8) collected her fifth complete game of the season after allowing three runs (one earned) on five hits over seven innings. Fitzpatrick struck out three batters and threw 105 pitches.
UIC scored first as Kennedy belted the first home run of her career in the second inning. Kennedy’s home run sailed through strong winds over the right field fence.
IUPUI responded with two runs on two hits and an error in the top of the third inning. Lindsey Richards doubled to lead off and scored on Jenna Marsalli's error at third base. With two outs, Morgan Schlobohm stole home on the Jaguars’ double steal attempt.
Dana Capocci and Hernandez were on with two outs in the fifth inning but Alex Wyss grounded out to second to end the frame. With two outs in the sixth inning, Laura Swan and Nagle were in scoring position when Kennedy struck out swinging.
Roni Patterson gave the Jaguars an insurance run in the sixth inning with a leadoff home run. Vodde (10-6) completed her seventh complete game of the season with a 1-2-3 seventh inning.
UIC returns to Horizon League play this weekend (April 26-27) when the Flames travel to Wisconsin to play Green Bay (17-11, 4-4 HL). Friday’s doubleheader starts at 1 p.m. CT at the Phoenix Softball Field.
