DAYTON, Ohio - The UIC softball team collected 11 hits to Wright State's one on the day as the Flames swept the Raiders in a series finale 8-0 score in six innings at WSU Field. Senior Devin Miller pitched all 20 innings of the series and allowed only seven hits.

"We were really happy to see our team make the adjustments against their pitching staff," head coach Michelle Venturella said. "We had a couple of errors early in the game, but we did a good job of managing those innings and not letting them score. Our battery did a great job holding off hitters, while the offense continued to put pressure on their defense."

Senior Coryn Schmit paced the Flames with two hits and two RBI. Sophomore Erica Hampton also collected two RBI on one hit. Senior Melissa Preish and junior Jenna Marsalli added in two hits.

Marsalli led off the second inning with a base hit, before freshman Laura Swan grounded out to the second baseman to move Marsalli to second. Junior Jacki Fletcher then doubled to centerfield to knock Marsalli in for the first run of the game.

Preish and Schmit led off the third inning with back-to-back singles. Marsalli then reached on a fielder's choice, which put Schmit out at second base. Due to a throwing error, Preish scored and extended the Flames lead to 2-0.

Senior Kara Komp started the fifth inning with a walk, before Hernandez reached on an error. Preish then laid down a bunt to load the bases. Schmit stepped to the plate, and with a hard-hit ball down the left-field line she scored Komp and Hernandez. Then, with a base hit up the middle, Hampton knocked in two more runs to score pinch runner Eleni Polites and Marsalli. UIC concluded the inning with a 6-0 lead.

Komp was hit by a pitch to begin the sixth frame, before Hernandez doubled to centerfield to put the duo in to scoring position. Preish and Schmit both reached on a fielder's choice, which put Komp out at home and Hernandez out at third, respectively. Marsalli earned an RBI as she scored Preish. Swan kept the bats rolling as she singled to right field to score Schmit to conclude the inning with an 8-0 advantage.

UIC takes a break from conference play with a mid-week single game Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. (CT) against IUPUI in Indianapolis, Ind.
