Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team (13-23, 3-3) snapped Loyola's (11-14, 7-1) perfect Horizon League record with a 4-0 triumph in the finale of the three-game series on Sunday at Loyola Softball Park. Sophomore Melissa Marinacci continued her hot streak at the plate this weekend with her second solo homer to give the Flames an early lead.

Marinacci was 2-for-2 with one run scored and one RBI. Junior Ashlee Ackerman was 2-for-4 with one RBI and senior Liz Jacoby notched her 11th double of the season to pick up two RBI in the win.

Loyola's Ashley Mitchell, Ellen Kresl and Kristen Mudred each tabbed a hit on the afternoon.

Sophomore Sarah Clynes improves her record to 10-11 on the season, while Rambler pitcher Amy Solava falls to 6-8 in the circle.

Marinacci gave the Flames an early 1-0 lead on a solo shot to left center in the second inning.

UIC's bats heated up in the fifth with three runs on two hits. With the bases loaded, Ackerman hit a sacrifice fly deep to center field, sending Nikki Rogers home. Jacoby then drilled a two-run RBI double down the left field line for the 4-0 advantage.

UIC held the Ramblers in the next two innings to end their perfect Horizon League record with the 4-0 victory.

UIC heads to Madison for a matchup versus Wisconsin on Tuesday, April 17.
