Softball Shutout By Notre Dame|
April 14, 2005
Chicago, Ill. - The UIC softball team had its 11-game home winning streak snapped on Thursday night as Notre Dame posted an 4-0 victory over the Flames.
The loss was UIC's first at Flames Field since a May 6, 2004 defeat at the hands of Wisconsin.
The Flames are now 28-20 on the year while the Fighting Irish ran their season-long winning streak to 12 games and are now 25-8.
Notre Dame's Steffany Stenglein and Heather Booth combined for the two-hit shutout in the circle.
Stenglein picked up her 11th win of the year. The right-hander tossed four innings, allowing just one hit while striking out four. Booth entered in the fifth and worked the rest of the way to pick up her second save.
Junior pitcher Brittany McIntyre (13-10) suffered the loss for UIC, surrendering four runs on eight hits in seven innings.
The Irish wasted little time getting on the scoreboard as Megan Ciolli's RBI single in the top of the first inning staked her team to a 1-0 lead.
Notre Dame pushed its advantage to 3-0 in the fourth on a two-out, two-run single by Liz Hartman.
Megan Ruthrauff added an RBI double in the top of the sixth to make the score 4-0.
The Flames will be back in action this weekend when they open a three-game Horizon League series versus Loyola on Saturday with a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m. in Rogers Park.
