UIC Sweeps Detroit; Records 18 Hits In Series Finale|

DETROIT - The UIC softball team collected 18 hits for the second-straight game to defeat Detroit 19-3 in five innings at the Buysse Ballpark. Dana Capocci recorded a grand slam to right-center field during the first inning in only her seventh at-bat as a Flame.
Seniors Kara Komp and Melissa Preish, along with junior Natalie Hernandez posted three hits in the game, while Hernandez also collected four RBI. Senior Coryn Schmit and freshman Laura Swan each had three RBI. Capocci concluded the game with a game-high five RBI.
Senior Devin Miller started inside the circle for UIC and in four innings of work, blanked seven batters.
The Titans then answered with a two-run home run and one more run to make the score 7-3.
The Flames added two runs in the top of the second inning following a two-run double hit by Swan for a 9-3 lead.
In the top of the third inning, UIC exploded for 10 runs that began with a two-run homer by Hernandez, her second of the series. With an additional eight runs in the frame, UIC cruised to the five-inning win.
UIC will take a break from Horizon League play with a mid-week single game Wednesday at 5:00 p.m. (CST) against DePaul at Flames Field.
