DETROIT - The UIC softball team collected six homeruns, including two from senior Melissa Preish and junior Jacki Fletcherto lead the Flames to back-to-back victories (5-1 and 17-8) over Detroit Saturday.

The Flames totaled six hits in the first game of the twinbill, while Detroit compiled seven. Junior Natalie Hernandez had one hit and two RBI and senior Melissa Preishhad two hits and two RBI.

Senior Devin Millerstarted inside the circle for UIC and threw 106 pitches. She faced 25 batters, gave up no runs or walks and allowed seven hits.

Preish lifted the lid for the Flames in the top of the first frame with a two-run homer - her third of the season - to right field to score Hernandez, who reached on a fielder's choice.

In the top of the fourth inning with the bases loaded, Hernandez hit a sacrifice fly ball to right field to score junior Jacki Fletcher. The junior second baseman reached on a base hit to right field, and the additional run placed the score at 3-0 in favor of UIC.

In the bottom half of the fourth frame, Detroit's Kayla Kostich reached on an error and advanced to second base, before Sara Cupp reached on an error and Kostich scored to record the Titans first run of the game.

UIC posted back-to-back lead-off homeruns in the sixth and seventh innings. Fletcher and Hernandez, respectively, collected their first homeruns of the season. With the two solo homers, the Flames increased their lead to 5-1 over the Titans, which UIC secured as a final score.

Senior Kara Komp led off the second game and doubled to left-center field to ignite a four-run inning. Hernandez then knocked Komp in with a single up the middle. Preish singled up the middle to move Hernandez to second base as senior Coryn Schmit recorded the third-straight up-the-middle hit to score Hernandez and move Preish to third base. Junior Jenna Marsalli then reached on a fielder's choice to record the RBI and score Preish. Sophomore Erica Hamptonlaid down a sacrifice bunt to score Marsalli and give UIC a 4-0 advantage in the first frame of play.

In the bottom of the second inning, Preish doubled to centerfield to record two RBI in Komp and Hernandez. Then, in the third inning Komp recorded her first-career homerun to improve UIC's lead to 7-1.

The Titans then collected two runs in the bottom of the third with a two-run homerun over the left-field wall for a 7-3 score.

UIC compiled back-to-back homeruns to start the sixth inning. Preish posted her second homerun of the day with a solo shot, before Schmit homered over the centerfield wall. With runners on second and third, Fletcher hit a two-run double to centerfield to place the score at 11-3.

The Titans then added one run in the bottom of the sixth. The Flames answered in the top of the seventh with six runs, including Fletcher's second homerun of the day and season.

With an additional Detroit three-run homerun and a solo homer, UIC secured the game 17-8 to win the first two games of the three-game series.
