    Box Score

Charlotte, N.C. - The UIC softball team rolled to its ninth straight victory with a 4-2 triumph at Charlotte on Tuesday afternoon, completing a doubleheader sweep of the 49ers at the Phillips Complex.

The Flames are now 17-15 on the year while Charlotte drops to 10-20-1.

Freshman Mercedes Lovato picked up the win in the circle for the Flames, earning her team-high 10th victory. She tossed five innings while surrendering just three hits and one unearned run.

Junior Brittany McIntyre, the star of UIC's win in the opener, picked up her first save with two innings of relief work.

The Flames jumped on the board first in game two when senior Cameron Astiazaran (2-for-4) scampered home on a wild pitch in the top of the third inning.

The 49ers battled back to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth, but UIC responded with two runs of their own in the top of the sixth inning to take the lead back.

Freshman Nicole Robinson, who was 2-for-4 on the day, delivered the key offensive blow with a two-run double to give the Flames a 3-1 advantage.

UIC tacked on an insurance tally in the top of the seventh when Astiazaran tripled and then scored for the second time on Tuesday via a wild pitch.

Charlotte plated one run in the bottom of the seventh for the final 4-2 margin.

The Flames will be back in action tomorrow when they conclude their spring trip by taking on Elon in a doubleheader at 1:00 p.m.
