    Box Score

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - The UIC softball team was unable to pick up a victory in their final spring tournament of the 2010 season, falling 9-4 to Oregon State in the San Diego Classic II Tournament on Sunday morning.

The Flames move to 9-18 with the loss and are amidst a six-game losing streak. UIC jumped out to a three run lead from the get-go, with a trio of hits and an error leading to runs from Melinda Macias and Stephanie Chavez. With two outs, Ashley Hewett drove in Macias of a single, and advanced to second on the throw.

An RBI single by Carly DeMarco straight up the middle brought Chavez home, and an error by Beavers catcher would bring in Hewett for the 3-0 lead.

Oregon State got their first run of the game in during the bottom of the second, when a walk and three singles closed the Flames lead to two.

The Beavers put the game out of reach in the third and fourth innings, putting up seven runs off of seven hits between the innings. Oregon State's first basemen put up the go-ahead run off a bases clearing triple to right field for a tie game, and scored herself of an infield error by the Flames to take a 4-3 lead.

Three more runs with two outs in the fourth broke open the game for the Beavers, including a two-run homer from Jessie Roderfeld for an 8-3 lead.

Kelsey Sturgeon would drive in the Flames final run off an infield putout in the fifth, bringing Chavez in who had opened the inning with a single up the left field side.

A trio of singles in the sixth would grant Oregon State their final run of the contest for the 9-4 final score.

Chavez would go 2-for-2 with a pair of walks while Hewett went 2-for-3 with an RBI on the day.

The Flames will have Monday off before taking on Long Beach State in a double-header on Tuesday, beginning at 2 p.m. CST.
