The Flames served as the home team in the opening game against North Dakota of the Hoosier Classic Tournament Friday. The Fighting Sioux led off the competition with four runs to jump out to an early lead.
UIC answered in the bottom half of the inning as junior Melissa Preish (Thousand Oaks, Calif./Westlake) hit a home run to right-center field, while sophomore Jenna Marsalli (Naperville, Ill./Neuqua Valley) doubled to score junior Coryn Schmit (Hawthorn Hills, Ill./Lake Zurich) and senior Ashley Hewett (La Palma, Calif., John F. In the inning, Macias was the first to score, followed by Preish, Jacki Fletcher (Lowell, Ind./Lowell), Marsalli and Hewett to place the score at 9-5.
