Softball Posts 3-1 Win Over Buffalo At USF Adidas Invite

Clearwater, Fla. - The UIC softball team topped the Buffalo Bulls in game five of the USF Adidas Invitational on Saturday afternoon, 3-1. The Flames are set to play in the first elimination round today at 4:00 or 6:00 pm.
Game Five: Scoreless in the first and second innings, UIC grabbed a 1-0 lead in the top of the third inning on an RBI double by freshman Sarah Clynes.
In the top of the fifth, first baseman Melissa Marinacci ripped a double down the right field line, followed by a sacrifice bunt from Lauren Brennan. With Marinacci in scoring position on second, senior Joyce Cathey belted a two-run homer to cushion UIC's advantage.
With the bases loaded in the bottom of the sixth, UIC pitcher Brittany McIntyre clipped Buffalo's Wheat to cut the Flames lead to two runs, but UIC held the Bulls in the seventh for a 3-1 victory.
With the win, UIC enters the elimination rounds 5-14 on the season and 3-2 in the tournament. Flames' pitcher Brittany McIntyre moves to 1-5 on the season.
