CLEARWATER, Fla. - The UIC softball team suffered a tight, 3-2 setback to Virginia Tech on Saturday evening at the USF Under-Armour Invitational.

The Flames (3-14) opened with a pair of runs, starting with Melissa Marinacci's sac hit to first that drove pinch runner Brittany Wilson home. One batter later, Brooke Frydendall's single straight up the middle let Stephanie Chavez round the bases to give UIC a 2-0 lead.

Held to only three hits entering the fourth, the Hokies jumped on the board with a solo home run by the shortstop, Kristen Graham. In the fifth, a two-run homer by Alicia Field would be the closing run for either side for the final score.

Hokies pitcher Kenzie Roark struck out eight in seven innings, limiting the Flames to six hits, with only two falling after the first inning.

UIC will close out the weekend with a 9 a.m. contest against St. Bonaventure on Sunday.
