Clearwater, Fla. - The UIC softball team saw its streak of hard luck continue on Saturday afternoon in a 2-0 loss to Mississippi in the final game of pool play at the 2004 Speedline Invitational at the EC Moore Complex.

With the loss, the Flames (5-13) finish in fifth in Pool A with a 2-3 record and will now advance to the elimination round tomorrow where they will take on Jacksonville at 8:00 a.m. The winner of that contest will meet the winner of Villanova and Northern Illinois at 10:00 a.m.

Senior Alison Aguilar posted another strong outing in the circle for UIC, allowing just three hits in six innings. Single runs in the fifth and sixth proved to be enough for Ole Miss, though, to hand Aguilar her fourth loss of the season.

The Rebels pitching and defense did most of the damage. Hurler Mary Jane Callahan, who had one of Ole Miss' RBI singles, limited the Flames to just two hits all afternoon and outfielder Stacy McCannon made the play of the day in the top of the sixth inning when she made a leaping grab to steal a go-ahead home run from senior Amanda Rivera, toppling over the fence in the process.
