Softball Falls In Hillenbrand Invitational Finale Against Iowa State
March 3, 2008
Tucson, Ariz. - The UIC softball team dropped a close 3-1 matchup against Iowa State on Sunday, the final game of the Hillenbrand Invitational at the University of Arizona.
Both sides remained scoreless until the third inning, when the Cyclones capitalized on back-to-back doubles hit deep into left field to score a pair of runs.
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, the Flames made the most of an offensive opportunity. Brittany Dixon started things as she slammed a double out to right-centerfield.
After an Iowa State error moved Dixon to third, Claire Donyanavard capitalized on her first appearance in the game, hitting a deep sacrifice fly to center, which brought Dixon across the plate.
Pitcher Sarah Clynes picked up four strikeouts in the circle for the Flames in a losing effort.
UIC went 1-4 in the three-day Hillenbrand Inivitational, falling to Virginia Tech in a close 6-5 battle on Friday, and South Florida (5-2) and Arizona (18-3) on Saturday.
