Softball Shuts Down Southeast Missouri State, 6-0

3rd Annual Southeast Softball Classic Game #3 UIC 6, Southeast Missouri State 0 Cape Girardeau, Mo. - UIC Head Coach Mike McGovern registered career win No. 550 and the Flames improved to 3-0 at the 3rd Annual Southeast Softball Classic with a 6-0 win over host Southeast Missouri State on Saturday afternoon. Freshman hurler Alycia Creese, who improved to 6-4 on the year with the win, went the distance for UIC, posting the first shutout of her collegiate career. The Flames broke open a 1-0 game in the top of the seventh inning as they notched five runs, sending 10 batters to the plate. Edel Leyden started the rally with a two-run single off SEMO starter Doehring (0-1). Stefanie Christoferson, who went 3-for-4 with a pair of doubles versus the Ohtakians, followed with a two-run double off the left field wall to give UIC a 5-0 lead. Later in the inning, Jacquelyne Vaca capped the frame with a RBI single for the Flames final run. With the win, UIC extended its winning streak to four games and now sits at 13-10 on the season. McGovern, who picked up career victory 500 last season versus Wichita State on Feb. 26, now owns a career record of 550-212-1 (.721).
The Flames will look for the tournament title tomorrow as they take on Northern Iowa at 9:30 a.m., followed by Southwest Missouri State at 11:30 a.m.
