    TEMPE, Ariz. - Eight of UIC's starters recorded a hit against Michigan State (3-3) Saturday at the Littlewood Classic inside Farrington Stadium. The Flames (0-8) dropped to the Spartans in an 11-7 decision.

    The Flames posted 11 hits in the morning game against Michigan State, while the Spartans had 13. Of those 11 hits, junior Courtney Heeley had three, while senior Kara Komp had two.

    Freshman Bridget Boyle started inside the circle for UIC and blanked two batters. Senior Devin Miller then entered in the second inning to close out the contest, where she threw 110 pitches.

    Michigan State opened the game with a run in the top of the first inning, before adding four more in the second to jump out to a 5-0 lead.

    In the bottom of the second frame junior Jacki Fletcher singled, and was hit around the bases until she reached third and Heeley singled to record the RBI and place the score at 5-1.

    The Spartans again answered with two runs in the top of the fourth and another in the fifth. With a fifth and sixth inning burst, the Flames added three in each frame to place the score within two runs at 9-7.

    Michigan State then secured the victory by adding two more runs to close the game at 11-7.

    The team concludes the Littlewood Classic Sunday in a 9:30 a.m. (CT) game against Illinois State.
