Box Score

Houston, Texas - The UIC softball team couldn't push home a run on Friday as they fell, 1-0, to Northwestern State in first-day action at the University of Houston Invitational Tournament.

The game, which pitted a pair of 2000 NCAA Regional qualifiers, was delayed almost four hours as early morning rains pushed the Flames' 8:00 a.m. start to a high noon first pitch. The delay also forced the cancellation of UIC's afternoon contest with Stephen F. Austin.

Despite three Northwestern State errors under windy conditions on Friday and five UIC hits, the Flames were unable to plate a run off Lady Demon starter Amanda Ortega.

Northwestern State first baseman Erin Mancuso, who went 10-for-15 last weekend at the UTA/Isuzu Motos Invitational, knocked in the only run of the game with a single in the top of the third inning.

Starter Alycia Creese was the tough-luck loser for UIC, falling to 3-3 on the season.

The Flames, who are now 7-6 on the year, will make up its game with Stephen F. Austin, tomorrow morning at 8:00 a.m.
