Box Score

Arlington, Texas - UIC surrendered three unearned runs in an upset loss to SW Texas State in the Consolation Championship of the UTA Invitational in Arlington, Texas.

The Bobcats got all the runs they would need in the first inning when Sarah Kmiec and Jaley Gaddis scored on a UIC throwing error to first base.

SW Texas State struck another blow in the fifth inning. The Bobcats' Elizabeth Wissell reach first on a throwing error from third base. She advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt and then to third on a single by Kmiec. Gaddis was up next for SW Texas, singling into center field to drive in Wissell and give the Bobcats a 3-0 lead.

It looked as though the Flames might mount a rally in the bottom of the fifth. Sophomore Edel Leyen reached second on a double, giving UIC a runner in scoring position. Jennifer Tiffany was up next and took advantage of her at bat, driving Leyden home with a base hit to center field. But UIC could do no more damage in the fifth, leaving the score at 3-1, SW Texas.
