Arlington, Texas - Steady rains in the Arlington area forced the cancellation of the final day of play at the UTA/Isuzu Motors Classic on Sunday. The UIC softball team, which was scheduled to meet the winner of Houston/Tulsa in the consolation final this afternoon, finished the tournament with a 3-3 record.

Mike McGovern's crew was led over the weekend by the strong hitting of Edel Leyden, Stefanie Christoferson and Jacquelyne Vaca. Leyden, who missed Friday's action with the flu, played on Saturday despite still feeling ill and went 5-for-9 at the plate (.556) with a pair of doubles. Christoferson posted a .474 batting average (9-for-19) over the weekend with a home run and a team-high tying six RBI. Vaca, who hit .400 (8-for-20) and drove in six runs at the UTA Classic, was the spark in the Flames' consolation quarterfinal round win over Stephen F. Austin. She went 4-for-4, tying the UIC single-game record for hits, while also tying the single-game mark for home runs in a game with two, including the game-winner.

The Flames, now 7-5 overall, will be back in action next weekend as they head back to Texas to compete in the Houston Invitational.
