Box Score

No. 22 UIC used an eight-run first inning to sink host Texas-Arlington, 10-0. The game was the Flames' second of the UTA Invitational, and was called after five innings because of softball's "10-run rule."

After Edel Leyden opened the first inning by flying out to center field, the next seven UIC runners would all reach base and eventually score. Gina Arnold drew first blood for the Flames, smacking a two-run homer over the left field fence to give UIC a 2-0 lead early in the game.

Later in the inning -- with the Flames now leading 6-0 -- Leyden returned to the plate and atoned for opening fly-out, smacking a two-run shot that upped UIC's lead to 8-0.

Rory Gonzales-Gould earned the win for UIC, pitching three innings while allowing just one hit. Maral Binnebose picked up the save, pitching two innings in relief, allowing just one hit.
