    Santa Barbara, Calif. - Long Beach State's Jamie Farnworth hit a game-winning, three-run homer in the bottom of the eighth inning on Friday afternoon to propel the 49ers to a 5-4 comeback win over UIC at the UCSB Early Bird Softball Tournament.

    The Flames (0-2) looked to be well on their way to their first victory of the season after tallying three runs in the top of the ninth inning, highlighted by RBI singles by Sara Hernandez and Amanda Rivera, who went 2-for-3 with two RBI.

    Long Beach State (2-0), though, anwsered with four of its own in the bottom of the frame off losing pitcher Brittany McIntyre (0-1).

    The 49ers took an early lead in this contest with a run in the bottom of the third, only to have UIC battle back with a run of its own in the top of the fourth inning on a solo blast by Rivera, her first home run of the season. That would be all the scoring in the contest until the eighth inning.

    Junior Cameron Astiazaran tallied her first three-hit outing for UIC in defeat.

    The Flames will be back in action tomorrow as they continue plat at the UCSB Early Bird Tournament by taking on Santa Clara and Oregon State.
