UIC head softball coach Michelle Venturella announced on Friday that the annual alumni game will be held on Saturday, Sept. 6 beginning at 3 p.m. CT at Flames Field. The game, featuring current and former players, will follow a 1 p.m. scrimmage of the 2014-15 Flames.
Former UIC softball player Courtney Heeley was recently chosen to be a part of USA Team Handball following the Women's Residency Program tryouts at Auburn University's Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum in Auburn, Ala. Heeley was selected among 14 athletes in attendance and is the only known former UIC student-athlete to compete with USA Team Handball.
UIC went 2-2 in Horizon League Tournament play with wins over Youngstown State, 3-2 (8), and Wright State, 3-0. Shortstop Natalie Hernandez and pitcher Bridget Boyle were selected to the All-Tournament Team, while left fielder Courtney Heeley earned the Defensive Player Award and Hernandez claimed the Batting Champion Award following the completion of the Horizon League Championship.

Jacki Fletcher, a recent UIC graduate and member of the Flames softball team, has been named the female recipient of the 2013-14 Cecil N. Coleman Medal of Honor, the Horizon League announced on Wednesday. The award is considered to be the highest individual honor in the conference.
The Flames ended the Hoosier Classic on a high note with two victories over Big 10 programs Michigan State and Indiana. The Flames recorded a 4-3 comeback win against Michigan State after trailing by three runs in the fourth. Indiana proved to be a challenge for the Flames, but the Flames production behind the plate led them to a 10-9 victory.
