    CHICAGO - The UIC men's and women's gymnastics teams kicked off the 2011-12 season with a friendly inter-squad meet Saturday afternoon inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill.

    Five teams consisting of student-athletes from both squads took part in the Mixed Pairs event and a total of 10 events were scored. The men's events included floor exercise, pommel horse, rings, vault, parallel bars and high bar while the women competed in the vault, uneven bars, balance beam and floor exercise.

    The team of Andrea Skala, Citlali Cuevas, Alyssa Cruz, Joseph Hodges, Michael Brackmann, Lukasz Adamczyk and Jacob Mager earned top honors with an average score of 18.73.

    The second place team, which featured Erin Duggan, Kimberly Randall, Kyle Voissem, Dan Hutton, Bryan Pusateri and Japeth Grimes, compiled an average score of 12.49.

    Finishing in third place with an average score of 11.92 was the team of Chantel Turk, Catherine Dion, Jason Gaides, Dan Zerbel, Kyle Christiansen.


     

     

    Rachel Montoya, Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette, Tamara Moten, Alex Bymaster, Justin Maxwell, Brett Valin took fourth place with an average score of 11.74.

    Rounding out the competition in fifth place, the team composed of Emily Lawrence, Chelsea Bailey, Ryan Nightingale, Keith Lage, David Ishida and Aaron Eyster averaged a score of 11.63.

    The men's team opens the 2011-12 regular season by hosting the Windy City Classic on Jan. 14 in Chicago, Ill., while the women's squad travels to DeKalb, Ill., to take on Northern Illinois on Jan. 8.
