The UIC women’s gymnastics team officially announced its 2010-11 regular season schedule on Thursday, November 18.

Highlighting this year’s slate includes a home dual-meet with Arkansas.  The Razorbacks finished off the 2009-10 season ranked ninth in the country after placing fifth in the NCAA Championship Session II Semifinal in Gainesville, Fla.

“We’ve seen them on the road before so it will be fun to have them at UIC,” said Head Coach Peter Jansson.  “They are a real up and coming program.”

After the mixed pairs meet on Dec. 5, the Flames will spend the first four out of five weekends on the road.  Two of those meets will be at NCAA powerhouses Michigan and Arizona.  The Wolverines concluded last season sixth in the nation while the Wildcats ended the year 21st.

“Our schedule starts off pretty road heavy which should build some character,” said Jansson.  “To take the floor with those guys is an awesome feeling.”

This year’s conference meet will be held in Cape Girardeau, Mo. on March 19 hosted by Southeast Missouri.  UIC finished fourth in the MIC standings in 2010, but with a group of talented returnees and quality newcomers, the Flames look to improve that number.

“We are looking to be on top of the conference again and this year’s team has the talent to do so.”

Homecoming will be on Feb. 11 when the Flames host the Ball State.  Roughly 40 former women’s gymnastics athletes will be honored on the floor prior to the meet.
