Women's Gymnastics Reveals 2012-13 Schedule

CHICAGO - The UIC women's gymnastics team released its 2012-13 schedule, going head-to-head with schools such as Penn State, Michigan, Illinois State and Western Michigan.
The squad opens the season with the Mixed Pairs exhibition Dec. 9 at UIC's Physical Education Building (PEB) in Chicago, Ill., before opening at home against Penn State on Jan. 12. The team faces off against Wisconsin and California-Davis and Berkeley Jan. 18 at Seattle, Wash., at 2:00 p.m. (CT), before versing fellow-Midwest Independent Conference rival Illinois State Jan. 27 at Normal, Ill., at 7:00 p.m. (CT).
The Flames then return home Feb. 2 for the State of Illinois vs. Michigan meet inside the PEB at 5:00 p.m. (CT). Last year, UIC took first place in the meet with a total of 194.125 points. The squad posted the second-highest score on vault with a 48.725, and claimed the top spot in each of the three other events.
After Feb. 2, the Flames head to Iowa City, Iowa, Feb. 8 to contend Iowa and Michigan State starting at 7:00 p.m. (CT), followed by Denver Feb. 16 at 5:00 p.m. (CT) at UIC and heading to Denton, Texas, Feb. 24 to face Air Force and conference rivals Texas Womens University and Centenary beginning at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
During the 2011-12 season, the squad challenged Centenary in a three-team meet, along with Illinois State and finished in first place with a 193.675 mark. Collectively, the team scored 48.175 in the vault, 49.050 on the bars, 48.125 on the beam and 48.300 in the floor exercise.
To begin March, the Flames welcome Western Michigan to the PEB March 2 at 5:00 p.m. (CT). During the 2011-12 season, UIC fell to undefeated Western Michigan, 193.825-193.425. The team travels to Champaign, Ill., March 10 as the squad faces off against Illinois and Ball State starting at 2:00 p.m. (CT). In 2011-12, the Flames beat Illinois 195.250-193.975.
Coming back home March 16, UIC plays host to the Illinois Classic Championship at the PEB starting at 5:00 p.m. (CT). The Flames challenged Illinois, Illinois State and Northern Illinois in the 2011-12 season and took second place with a final score of 194.550.
The following week, UIC heads to Centenary, La., on March 23 to participate in the MIC Championship beginning at 5:00 p.m. (CT). Last year, the Flames placed second with a final score of 194.725, while Illinois State finished in first with 194.800 points.
NCAA-level competition begins in April with the NCAA Regional (April 6), followed by a two-week break before the NCAA Championships on April 20.
