CHICAGO – UIC co-head women’s gymnastics coach Peter Jansson announced the release of the 2013-14 schedule Tuesday.  The Flames will host Arizona, Lindenwood, Texas Woman’s, Ball State and Illinois State at the Physical Education Building this season.

"We are very excited in regards to several aspects of the schedule," Jansson said.  "We get a chance to measure up early against some national powerhouse teams like Penn State and Arizona.  We have several championship format meets to get us ready for conference, as we compete in four-team meets at Central Michigan and Illinois State, as well as part of the largest gymnastics meet in the world at the Chicago Style Classic.  We will see most of our conference foes in dual meets before the Championship, as we seek to repeat as MIC Conference Champions.”

Before the regular season gets underway, UIC will compete in its annual Mixed Pairs exhibition meet on Saturday, Dec. 7, at the PEB alongside the men’s team beginning at 4 p.m. CT.

The 2014 season kicks off on Jan. 11, when the Flames welcome Arizona to the PEB at 5 p.m.  The Flames then head to their first road meet of the season on Jan. 18 to face Penn State at 3 p.m. in State College, Pa., before returning home to take on Lindenwood at 2 p.m. in their first MIC meet of the season on Jan. 26.

February begins with the annual State of Illinois versus State of Michigan meet, set to take place in Mount Pleasant, Mich., on Feb. 1 at 1 p.m., followed by the Chicago Style Meet on Feb. 7 that will feature the likes of Bowling Green, Boise State and North Carolina at 7:30 p.m. at Navy Pier in Chicago.

After the Chicago Style Meet, the Flames will make a short turnaround and head to Cape Girardeau, Mo., on Feb. 9 to go up against Southeast Missouri at 1 p.m. before heading back to the PEB to host Texas Woman’s at 7 p.m. on Feb. 14.

On Feb. 21, UIC will compete at the Illinois Classic Championships in Normal, Ill., beginning at 7 p.m., and then continue on the road to face Iowa at 3 p.m. Feb. 23 in Iowa City, Iowa.

The Flames will challenge Ball State when they welcome the Cardinals to the PEB for a 5 p.m. meet on March 1, followed by a 1 p.m. meet in Kalamazoo, Mich., on March 9 against Western Michigan.

In its final home meet of the season, UIC will host Illinois State at the PEB at 5 p.m. on March 15 before heading back to Normal, Ill., to compete in the MIC Championships on March 22 beginning at 4 p.m., with qualifiers continuing on to the NCAA Regionals, set for April 5.

"Overall, I feel this schedule will challenge us to reach for the next level, as well as prepare us for returning to NCAA Regionals."
