UIC Women's Gymnastics 2010 Banquet Recap in PDF Format
CHICAGO- The UIC women's gymnastics team celebrated its 2010 campaign in style at the Flames' year-end banquet held at Francesca's on Taylor earlier this month. Head coaches Peter Jansson and Mary Jansson announced team award winners and recognized the many memorable achievements accomplished by the team this past season. Sophomore Rachel Montoya was honored with three of the team's most prestigious awards. She shared Most Improved Gymnast honors with Chantel Turk, earned Most Consistent Beam Performer with Emily Fiorilli, and took home Most Valuable Gymnast accolades with Andrea Skala. UIC's All-Midwest Independent Conference, All-State, and NCAA Regional qualifying performers were honored, as were the slew of scholastic all-state, scholastic all-conference and scholastic All-America athletes the Flames have produced over the past two years. In addition to individual athletic and academic honors that were bestowed upon the student-athletes, the team's honor as UIC's Academic Team of the Year was saluted, as was the dazzling performance at Denver on March 13 in which the Flames hit all 24 of their routines. The Flames featured no seniors this past season, meaning that next year's UIC squad will return 12 student-athletes who competed during the 2010 campaign.
