CHICAGO – Members of the UIC women’s gymnastics team were recognized this season for their success in the classroom with All-State, All-Conference and Scholastic All-American accolades at the Illinois Classic (Feb. 21) and the Midwest Independent Conference Championships (March 22). Five Flames were additionally honored at the UIC “Night of Champions” Academic Banquet for outstanding academics over the last three semesters.

Chelsea Bailey, Kimberly Randall, Riley Cholod and Nikki Woodruff received the All-State Academic Award for achieving a GPA of 3.0 or higher in the fall at the Illinois Classic while among fellow gymnasts from the state of Illinois.

Kerensa Mitchell, Giulia Hindermann, Michelle Lozneanu, Nicole Szabo, Citlali Cuevas, Emily DeCesare, Gabrielle May and Catherine Dion were All-State and All-Conference winners for holding a 3.25 GPA or higher in the fall. The All-Conference awards were distributed at the MIC Championships.

Additionally, Lozneanu, Szabo, Cuevas, DeCesare and Dion were positioned for Scholastic All-American status after maintaining a 3.5 GPA or higher during the academic year.

Cuevas, Hindermann, Dion, Mitchell and May were recognized at the UIC “Night of Champions” Academic Banquet for their academic success over the last three semesters, with May sharing the title of UIC Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
