Dion And Turk Set For NCAA Regionals Saturday|

CHICAGO – Catherine Dion and Chantel Turk will travel to Norman, Okla., for NCAA Regional competition. Dion and Turk will compete as individuals in the all-around category on April 6 at 4:00 p.m. (CT), Oklahoma will play host to the NCAA event.
"We are very proud to have Chantel [Turk] and Catherine [Dion] representing UIC at Regionals," co-head coach Peter Jansson said. "They both had a fantastic year competing in the all-around. We could not be more proiud of them."
This will be the final competition for senior Turk. During the 2013 season, she paced her team to a first-place finish at the MIC Championship, and the team’s highest score of the season with a 195.600. She was also named the MIC Gymnast of the Year. As a junior she and her team competed at the NCAA Regional in Champaign, Ill., while she was selected as the team’s Most Valuable Gymnast. Turk currently holds a career-high all-around score of 39.300, which was set against Denver on Feb. 16, 2013.
Dion’s current career-high all-around score is a 39.075, which was set at the Midwest Independent Conference Championship on March 23, 2013. During the 2012 season she received the team’s Most Consistent Beam Award, while also earning Most Valuable Gymnast accolades, as well.
Oklahoma, Stanford, Penn State, Washington, Iowa and Southern Utah are among the regional qualifying teams set to compete at the Regional.
In addition to Dion and Turk, Samantha King of Illinois State, Taryn Vanderpool (Southeast Missouri State) and Kim Genereux (Illinois State) will compete for a spot at the national championships in Duluth, Ga., April 19-21, where UCLA serves as the host team.
The top two teams and the top two all-around competitors who are not on an advancing team from each regional will receive an automatic bid to the national championships.
