April 2, 2007

Chicago, Ill.- The UIC women's gymnastics team learned on Monday that they have qualified for the 2007 NCAA South Central Regional to be held on April 14th at the University of Arizona's McKale Memorial Center in Tucson, Ariz.

The Flames, the 2007 Midwest Independent Conference Champions, will compete against top-seeded Stanford, Oregon State, the host Wildcats, Illinois and Arizona State in the regional, which will begin at 7:00 p.m. Central.

UIC's 2007 bid is the eighth all-time berth into NCAA regional competition for the Flames, who will also be making their second consecutive trip to the regional.

The top two teams and top two all-arounders (who are not on an advancing team) from each regional will earn an automatic berth to the 2007 National Collegiate Women's Gymnastics Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah on April 26-28.

Event winners that are not on an advancing team will also move on to the national meet.

The rotation order for the NCAA South Central Regional was also announced. UIC will open with a bye and begin competition during the second rotation on uneven bars. The Flames will then move to beam, sit out with another bye in the fourth rotation, take to the floor exercise in the fifth go-around and complete the meet on vault.
