UIC Gymnastics Set For Conference Meet|

CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team travels to Shreveport, La., Saturday for the MIC Championship. The Flames are competing against Illinois State, Texas Women’s, Centenary, Southeast Missouri State and Lindenwood for the conference title.
The Flames enter the meet after a third-place finish (193.375) at the State of Illinois Classic against Illinois, 195.700, Illinois State (194.075) and Northern Illinois (192.675) on March 16. Senior Chantel Turk led the Flames on vault, scoring a 9.800 and tied for fifth. Turk also led the UIC in the all-around with a 38.975. Junior Catherine Dion scored a 9.675 on beam and team-best on floor (9.800). Sophomore Gabrielle May led UIC on bars, scoring a 9.825.
The Redbirds enter the match following a second-place finish (194.075) against Illinois, UIC and Northern Illinois March 16. Jenna Bossle led the Redbirds on vault (9.800) and bars (9.800). Kim Genereux scored a 9.750 on beam and 9.775 on floor. Sami King led Illinois State in the all-around, scoring a 39.000.
The Pioneers last defeated Lindenwood 192.700 to 191.950 on March 10. Bethany Larimer tied for first on vault (9.800), while Courtney Cochefski notched a first-place finish on bars (9.775). The Pioneers placed first, second and third on beam with Spencer Jones finishing in first with a 9.875. Jones also placed fourth in the all-around with a 38.100. Kristen Edwards scored a 9.825 to earn first place on floor.
The Ladies enter the meet after a loss (190.425) to Minnesota (196.600), Arkansas (196.350) and Nebraska (196.150) on March 9. Robyn Price led Centenary on vault (9.675), beam (9.750) and all-around (38.575). Jessica Lieblich paced the Ladies on bars with a 9.725.
The Redhawks placed third (194.025) against Kent State (195.975), New Hampshire (194.675) and Cornell (192.450) on March 15. Emma Garrett, Taryn Vanderpool and Megan Fosnow placed sixth on vault (9.775) in a six-way tie. Garrett also tied for first on floor with a 9.825. Margaret O’Neal notched a first-place finish alongside Kent State’s Rachel Guida on bars (9.875). Kimberly Picknerl led the Redhawks on beam with a 9.800, finishing sixth.
The Lady Lions lost to Texas Women’s on March 10. Rachel Zabawa tied for first place on vault (9.800) and placed second on floor (9.800). Emily Turik and Courtney Heise tied for second on bars (9.750). Valeri Ingui and Zabawa were in a three-way tie for fourth on beam with scores of 9.775. The Lady Lions placed first, second and third in all-around with Heise taking first, 38.625.
During the 2012 season, the Flames placed second (194.725) behind Illinois State (194.800). Turk scored a 9.850 on vault, notching a second-place finish. Andrea Skala and Cynthia Lemieux-Guillemette were in a three-way tie for first on bars (9.825). Skala also tied for third on floor with Illinois State’s Genereux and Texas Women’s Spencer Jones (9.800). Dion tied for third on beam with a 9.775.
The Redbirds finished first at the MIC Championship last year. Elise Gray notched a third-place finish on vault with a 9.800, while Robin Weissman tied for first with UIC’s Skala and Leimeux-Guillemette on bars (9.825). Samantha King placed second on beam (9.850) and Apollonia Barrientos tied for first on floor (9.825). Genereux scored a 39.000 in all-around to earn a first-place finish.
The Pioneers placed third in 2012 with a 194.050 score. Kayla Jones notched a first-place finish on vault with a 9.875, while Courtney Cochefski ended in a four-way tie for fifth on bars (9.775). Bethany Larimer led the Pioneers on beam with a 9.650 and Kristin Edwards tied for first with Illinois State’s Barrientos on floor (9.825). Rashonda Cannie placed third all-around with a score of 38.675.
The Ladies placed fourth in 2012 with a 191.300 score. Amanda Holt led the Ladies on vault, finishing in a three-way tie for seventh (9.750), and Stephanie Wright tied for fifth on bars (9.775). Jessica Lieblich led Centenary on beam with a 9.525, while Meg Crowley finished in a three-way tie for sixth on floor (9.775). Robyn Price and Lieblich placed fourth all-around, scoring a 38.450 and 38.275.
The Redhawks finished fifth (191.225) last season. Emma Garrett finished in a three-way tie for fourth on vault (9.775) and led the Redhawks on floor (9.750). Angela Serafini placed fourth on bars with a 9.800 and Taylor Westrick notched a first-place finish on beam (9.900). Vanderpool placed sixth in all-around (37.975) and Megan Fosnow finished seventh (37.200).
The Lady Lions are new to the MIC, joining in April of 2012. Previously, they were a part of the NCAA Division II Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association (MIAA).
