CHICAGO – For the sixth time this season, senior Catherine Dion has been named the MIC Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the Midwest Independent Conference on Wednesday. Dion earns the accolade after leading the Flames against Western Michigan and collecting two first-place finishes.
The Gatineau, Quebec, Canada native led UIC against the Broncos with top scores on each event. Dion tied for first with 9.825 on bars and took first on beam with 9.875. She also matched her career highs while placing second on vault (9.800) and floor (9.875). Dion rounded out competition by winning the all-around and tying her personal best with 39.375.
Dion will compete in her final meet at the Physical Education Building on Saturday alongside the Flames, as they host Illinois State at 5 p.m. CT. Dion will additionally be honored for her achievements as a Flame in a Senior Day ceremony.
