Andrea Skala & Chantel Turk Named MIC Gymnasts Of The Week

CHICAGO- UIC sophomore Andrea Skala (Brookfield, Ill./Lyons Township H.S.) and freshman Chantel Turk (Hazelcrest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor H.S.) were honored as the Midwest Independent Conference Gymnasts of the Week for the period of March 1-7. Skala was named the MIC All-Arounder of the Week after winning the all-around against Northern Illinois on March 6. She posted a career-high 39.125 in the all-around and placed in the top three of every event, sharing the balance beam title with teammate Emily Fiorilli. Turk was named MIC Specialiast of the Week following a pair of event titles in the Flames' win over the Huskies last Saturday. She won vault with a 9.875 and posted a career-high 9.9 on floor exercise to take first place.
These are the first MIC weekly awards for both Skala and Turk. UIC returns to action this weekend at Denver.
