CHICAGO –
The UIC women’s gymnastics team will compete in its second-to-last meet of the regular season on Sunday, as it heads to Kalamazoo, Mich., for a non-conference dual meet against Western Michigan at University Arena beginning at 1 p.m. CT.

The Flames are returning from a 194.100-193.950 win over Ball State on March 1 for their third home victory of the season. UIC took first on all but one event, and even posted its best beam score of the season with 48.750.

Senior Catherine Dion recorded a career-high 9.900 on beam for first, as sophomore Kerensa Mitchell took third with a personal-best 9.825, which earned her the MIC Specialist of the Week accolade. Dion also finished first on bars (9.850), floor (9.825) and in the all-around (39.350), while placing second on vault (9.775).

Western Michigan comes into competition after producing a second-place score of 193.625 against Penn State, Yale and Lindenwood on Feb. 28. The Broncos hold a season-high score of 195.000 while positioned in a tie for 51st in the rankings with a 192.925 average, behind UIC’s 193.440.

The Flames faced Western Michigan last season at the Physical Education Building and came away with a 192.700-192.525 win, while they fell, 193.825-193.425, the last time they competed in Kalamazoo.
