CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team gets set to host Ball State on Saturday in a non-conference meet at 5 p.m. CT inside the Physical Education Building. The Flames are averaging a score of 193.065 this season, ahead of the Cardinals’ 191.565.
UIC is back at the PEB after competing in the Illinois Classic against Illinois State, Illinois and Northern Illinois on Feb. 21 and at Iowa on Feb. 23. The Flames took second in their quad meet with a season-high score of 194.300, while they fell to the Hawkeyes, 195.125-193.800.
Through the two meets, senior Catherine Dion boasted UIC’s best scores on six events and in both all-arounds, with redshirt-junior Kimberly Randall scoring the top vault (9.875) and sophomore Alexandra Vedenin taking floor (9.750) at the Illinois Classic. Dion captured first with a career-best 9.900, scored 9.700 on beam and finished the all-around with 39.125 at the quad meet before claiming first on bars (9.850) and floor (9.850), second on vault (9.775) and third on beam (9.775) with an all-around score of 39.250 at Iowa.
Ball State enters into Saturday’s competition having lost its last six meets. Leading the way for the Cardinals this season is Brooke Evans with a 9.760 average on vault, Brooklyn Schumacher on bars with 9.745, Samantha Santos with 9.690 on beam and Denasiha Christian on floor with 9.830.
In their last meeting, the Flames came away with a 193.175-191.925 win at home during the 2011 season.
