CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team received a No. 28 ranking after defeating (then) 18th-ranked Illinois, 195.250-193.975 Saturday (Feb. 25) inside the Physical Education Building. The latest rankings were released Monday afternoon.

Among the highlighted competitors in the victory over Illinois, Chantel Turk (Hazelcrest, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and Kimberly Randall (Lansing, Ill./Skyline Gymnastics) posted 9.850 to lead the squad in the event. Andrea Skala (Brookfield, Ill./Flying High Sports) was the first-place finisher on the parallel bars with a 9.800. Catherine Dion (Gatineau, Quebec, Canada/ Nicolas-Gatineau) posted a 9.800 on beam, while Turk gave a 9.850 performance on her floor routine to assist the Flames to the victory over the Fighting Illini.

The Flames rank ahead of two Big Ten teams, Iowa and upcoming opponent, Michigan State. In addition to the overall team ranking, the squad ranks 25th in the country on the uneven bars.

The team’s success this season places them in the first-place spot in the Midwest Independent Conference (MIC) in each event.

The Flames return to action in another Big Ten match up Friday as the squad faces Michigan State Friday at 6:00 p.m. (CT) in East Lansing, Mich.
