Dion Earns Third-Consecutive MIC Honor

CHICAGO – Senior Catherine Dion has been named MIC Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the Midwest Independent Conference on Wednesday. Dion picks up the accolade for the third-straight week and fifth time this season after collecting top scores for the Flames last weekend.

The Gatineau, Quebec, Canada native helped the UIC women’s gymnastics team place second with a season-high 194.300 at the Illinois Classic alongside Illinois State, No. 14 Illinois and Northern Illinois on Feb. 21 before taking the team’s best scores in a 195.125-193.800 loss at Iowa on Feb. 23.

At the Illinois Classic, Dion finished first with a career-high 9.900 on bars, tied her personal best on vault with 9.800 and had UIC’s best beam (9.700) and all-around (39.125) scores, while also posting a 9.750 on floor.

Just two days later at Iowa, Dion led the Flames on every event as she took second on vault with 9.775, first on bars with 9.850, third on beam with 9.775, a tie for first on floor with 9.850 and first in the all-around with 39.250.

Dion will join UIC at the Physical Education Building on Saturday, when they host Ball State in a non-conference meet beginning at 5 p.m. CT.
