Dion Named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week|

CHICAGO—UIC women’s gymnast Catherine Dion has been selected as the Illinois National Guard UIC Flames Student-Athlete of the Week for the period of Feb. 17-23. She took top scores and finished for the Flames in all events in their weekend competition.
At the Illinois Classic on Friday night, Dion helped her team to a second-place finish ahead of Northern Illinois and Illinois State. Dion took first place on the bars with a career-high score of 9.900. She also recorded the best Flames’ score on beam with 9.700. The senior finished the night in with a third-place all-around score of 39.125.
In a Sunday matchup against Big-Ten host Iowa, Dion led the Flames in every event. The Canada native took first place on bars, floor, and in the all-around with scores of 9.850, 9,850 and 39.250, respectively.
This is Dion’s second time being named Illinois National Guard Student-Athlete of the Week so far this season.
The Flames will next host Ball State on Saturday at the Physical Education Building, with competition set to begin at 5 p.m. CT.
