CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team contests Iowa and Michigan State Friday at 7:00 p.m. (CT) inside the Carver-Hawkeye Arena in Iowa City, Iowa.

“Slowly, but surely we have competed better and better every week and we are out to prove that our beam performance last weekend was a fluke,” co-head coach Peter Jansson said. ”We have worked hard this week, and are looking forward to measuring up against a couple of Big Ten teams. It should be a great battle.”

UIC enters the meet after finishing fourth with a 192.800 Saturday in a quadrangular meet against Central Michigan (195.875), Illinois State (194.100) and Eastern Michigan (192.850). Senior Chantel Turk claimed a 9.875 on the vault and floor exercise to place third and first, respectively. Sophomore Gabrielle May claimed a 9.800 on the bars to finish third.

The GymHawks most recently fell to Michigan 196.675 to 195.200 Saturday. Emma Willis scored a 9.800 on vault and floor, and finished with a 9.775 on bars. Sydney Hoerr scored a 9.850 on bars, ending up in a three-way tie for second. Kaitlynn Urano scored a 9.800 on beam, finishing fourth overall while Alie Glover scored a 38.975 all-around to claim third place.

Michigan State dropped to 13th-ranked Minnesota, 194.325-192.625 Friday. The Spartans were led by Alina Cartwright, who placed second in the all-around with a 38.575. Senior Taira Neal claimed the vault crown with a 9.850.
