Women's Gymnastics Earns National Ranking

CHICAGO – The UIC women’s gymnastics team earned a No. 36 ranking following its weekend competition in Michigan, where the Flames claimed first place Feb. 3 in a quadrangular meet, which was held at Eastern Michigan in Ypsilanti, Mich.

“We are excited to be ranked in the top 36 after competing through half of our season as there are 36 teams that compete at the end of the season to qualify for the NCAA Regionals,” co-head coach Peter Jansson said. “Moving into the second part of the season we will have to continue do compete well to reach our major goal, which is to return to the NCAA Championship.”

The Flames claimed first place in the meet with 194.125 points, while Illinois State trailed UIC, 192.875 to notch a second-place finish. Central Michigan placed third (192.200) and host team, Eastern Michigan rounded out the team scores with 191.775.

The Flames then traveled to undefeated Western Michigan for a dual meet on Feb. 5, where UIC dropped 193.825-193.425.

The Flames return to action Saturday against Seattle Pacific at 7:00 p.m. (CT) for the squad’s senior night inside the Physical Education Building in Chicago, Ill.
