CHICAGO – Senior Chantel Turk (Hazelcrest, Ill./Gym Kinetics) has been named the MIC Gymnast of the Week, it was announced by the conference Wednesday afternoon. The honor is on the coattails of two career-best performances.

“It was very exciting to see Chantel recognized,” co-head coach Peter Jansson said. ”This is her first year competing in the all-around after working very hard to add beam to her arsenal.”

Turk earned the honor after her performance against Illinois State, which was held Jan. 27 inside the Horton Field House in Normal, Ill. Turk placed first on the floor exercise with a 9.850, while collecting the second-highest score (9.750) on the beam to capture a career best. She then claimed a 9.775 on the vault and a 9.750 on the bars for a career-best 39.125 effort in the all-around for a career high.

The Flames return to action Saturday at 5:00 p.m. (CT) as the Flames play host to the State of Illinois versus the State of Michigan meet. The four-team field features Illinois State, Eastern Michigan and Central Michigan inside the Physical Education Building.
