CHICAGO – Senior Catherine Dion and freshman Nicole Szabo have been named MIC Gymnast and Specialist of the Week, respectively, as announced by the Midwest Independent Conference on Wednesday. This is Dion’s second such accolade of the season and the first of Szabo’s career.
Dion and Szabo are coming off of season-best performances against Lindenwood on Jan. 26. The Flames defeated the Lions, 192.225-189.700, for their first win and collected top scores on vault (48.175), bars (48.950) and floor (48.750) this season.
Dion, a native of Gatineau, Quebec, Canada, recorded two first-place finishes with a 9.825 on bars and a 9.700 on beam. Dion also came in a tie for second on vault with a season-high 9.775 and placed third with 9.775 on floor. She matched her career-high all-around score and took first with 39.075, the best in the MIC.
