CHICAGO – Senior Catherine Dion has been named MIC Gymnast of the Week, as announced by the Midwest Independent Conference on Wednesday. The accolade comes to Dion following a first place performance on uneven bars and a career-best score on floor against Arizona on Jan. 11.

The Gatineau, Quebec, Canada native led the Flames on three events to pick up a tie for first place on bars with a 9.800, a score of 9.775 on beam for third place and a career-best score of 9.800 to tie for fourth on floor. While scoring a 9.675 on vault, Dion was able to come away with a second-place finish in the all-around with a total of 39.050.

The honor is the first to be awarded by the conference this season and marks the second of Dion’s career after she picked up the accolade last season following a career-best score in the all-around.

Dion and the Flames return to action Saturday when they travel to University Park, Pa., to take on Penn State, SEMO and Cornell in their first quad meet of the season at Rec Hall at 3 p.m. CT.
