Women's Gymnastics Concludes 2007 At NCAA South Central Regional April 14, 2007 Tucson, Ariz.- The UIC women's gymnastics team wrapped up the 2007 campaign in style at the 2007 NCAA South Central Regional at the University of Arizona's McKale Center on Saturday night. In front of a crowd of 1,390, the Flames finished sixth with a score of 190.925. Sophomore Annie Kachman led UIC in the all-around with a 38.4, followed by senior Jessie Jaworowicz's 37.6. The Flames began the competition on bars in the second rotation. Jaworowicz paced the Flames with a team-leading 9.625, followed by sophomore Ashley Thurston's 9.6. On beam the Flames received a bevy of fine showings. Kachman led UIC with a 9.775 to take 17th out of 42 competitors, while Thurston turned in another strong performance with a 9.7 on the apparatus. Kristen Kulinczenko also had a nice beam showing with a 9.65. After another bye the Flames moved to floor exercise. Senior Rachael Zelinski led the way in her final collegiate performance with a 9.775, good for 15th overall in the 42-woman field. For the third consecutive event it was Thurston posting the Flames' second-best score on an event after earning a 9.575. UIC wrapped the regional on vault. Freshman Justine Weyer anchored the Flames' showing with a team-best 9.75, followed by a 9.7 from Kachman. The meet marked the final performances from seniors Zelinski, Jaworowicz and Jessica Panos. Stanford won the regional with a 196.6, while Oregon State's runner-up 196.075 allowed the Beavers to join the Cardinal in advancing to the NCAA Championships. UIC concludes a season in which it won the State of Illinois Classic, the Midwest Independent Conference Championship and advanced to its eighth all-time NCAA Regional competition.
