    FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – UIC gymnasts Catherine Dion and Gabrielle May concluded competition at the NCAA Fayetteville Regional on Saturday at the Barnhill Arena and placed sixth and 12th, respectively, in the all-around. Dion was named the NCAA Regional Gymnast of the Year and will be an alternate for the NCAA Championships.

    Dion’s best score of the day came on bars, where she tallied 9.725 for ninth place. She then recorded scores of 9.700 on vault for a tie for 10th and on floor for a tie for 11th. Dion rounded out competition with 9.675 on beam to tie for 10th and contribute to her all-around score of 38.800.

    May produced her best score on floor with 9.675 for 12th place, while she posted 9.525 on vault. May came in with a score of 9.450 on beam and finished with 9.050 on bars for an all-around total of 37.700.

    Utah and UCLA each clinched a spot at nationals after collecting respective scores of 197.300 and 196.600. Arkansas’ Katherine Grable (39.675) and Amanda Wellick (39.000) will advance as all-arounders, with Dion serving as the alternate with the next best score. The national competition will be held in Birmingham, Ala., April 18-20.
