    BLOOMINGTON, Ill. - Despite a bevy of top individual finishes, the UIC women's gymnastics team was unable to defend its Midwest Independent Conference Championship on Saturday afternoon.

    The Flames placed three in the top ten on the vault, with junior DeAvera Todd placing fourth with a 9.825 performance, followed by Annie Kachman (9.800) in fifth and Andrea Skala (9.775) in sixth.

    Todd also fared well on the bars, claiming the Flames lone podium finish on the evening with a 9.800 score. Senior Zandre Labuschagne (9.775) finished fifth and Christine Girard (9.750) rounded out the top finishers for UIC.

    Todd would finish third in the all-around with a 38.850 score.

    SEMO claimed the 2009 conference championship with a 193.825 finish, followed by host Illinois State (192.775), Texas Women's University (192.725), Centenary College (191.300) and UIC (190.975) rounding out the field.

    The Flames now await their post-season fate as NCAA Regional berths will be announced on Monday.
