Champaign, Ill.- Senior Rachael Zelinski picked up a victory on balance beam, but it was not enough as the UIC women's gymnastics team fell just short against 19th-ranked Illinois at Huff Hall on Saturday afternoon.

The Flames posted a 193.975, while the Fighting Illini were able to come away with the win after scoring a 195.625.

Zelinski had a magnificent routine that warranted an overall score of 9.85 from the judges to take first place in the event. She was also solid on floor with a 9.8, which was good for fifth place.

As a team the Flames outscored Illinois on beam, with UIC's 48.450 besting the 48.425 turned in by the Illini.

Senior Jessie Jaworowicz came close to first place in the all-around after compiling a score of 38.950, but the UIC standout ended the competition in a close second to Illinois' Marijka Botterman and her score of 39.025.

Jaworowicz and sophomore Annie Kachman were UIC's leading vaulters after posting identical 9.75 tallies.

Sophomore Zandre Labuschagne led the Flames on bars with a fourth-place 9.775.

The Flames head to DeKalb, Ill., for the 2007 State of Illinois Classic on Sunday, March 25th at 2:00 p.m. The meet will feature UIC, Illinois, Northern Illinois and Illinois State.
