Women's Gymnastics Closes Out Home Season With Season-High Performance At Illinois Classic

CHICAGO - The UIC women's gymnastics team closed out a successful homestand with a season-high score at the Illinois Classic on Saturday evening. The Flames finished third with 194.800 points, ahead of Illinois State (193.275). Champion Illinois (196.450) and Northern Illinois (194.925) rounded out the four-team field. Zandre Labuschagne set a personal best with her first-place finish on the balance beam in her final home competition as a Flame. The senior tied with two others with her 9.925 score. DeAvera Todd had a highly successful evening, winning the vault championship with a 9.85 performance. Two events later, she earned runner-up honors on the floor with a 9.9 showing The junior was the Flames top all-around finisher, placing fifth with 38.850. Todd and Labuschagne were named to the All-State team for their performances this evening. The Flames score is the second time UIC has finished with more than 194 points this season, first breaking the barrier with a 194.100 finish against Illinois State at home on February 28. UIC closes out the regular season at the Midwest Independent Conference championships, held at Illinois State on March 21 at 4 p.m. Illinois Classic All-State Team
