Kim Ball named to All-State team on three events as Flames post second-highest score of the season

Champaign, Ill. - The UIC women's gymnastics team racked up 195.075 points to take first place Saturday evening at the Illinois State Meet in Champaign. The Flames beat out host-Illinois, which finished with 194.125 points, Illinois State (194.100) and Northern Illinois (186.050).

Gabriella Brunn and Kim Ball each captured Illinois State championships, with Brunn winning the vault (9.900) and Ball the balance beam (9.825) and the uneven bars (9.850). Ball's score on the uneven bars tied her for first with Illinois' Phaedra Dixon. Both Brunn and Ball were named to the All-Illinois team on those events. Ball added a third All-Illinois honor with a second place finish (tie) on the floor exercise with a score of 9.875.

Tara Rhoden, Amy August and Jaclyn Messerges also earned all-state honors. Rhoden placed third (tie) on the vault with a 9.750 while Amy August finished in a tie for third on the beam with a 9.775. Messerges' score of a 9.825 tied her for third on the uneven bars for her All-Illinois finish.

The 195.075 points was UIC's second-highest score of the season, and comes just as the Flames inch closer to spot at NCAA Regionals.

The Flames return to action Tuesday, March 14, when UIC hosts Illinois State at 7:00 p.m. for its final home meet of the season.
